Peaceful, (un)Easy Feeling

The Clinton machine is full attack mode in NH. Obama is gaining in the polls and Clinton is trying to stop the bleeding. I don't think she can...this is as much about people not wanting her as it is about the Obama phenomena.

On a personal level, this must be difficult to comprehend. She has run her campaign as the inevitable candidate...being rebuked by voters cannot be pleasant. Many of the high-level super delegates are shocked by what is happening. The establishment Democratic party apparatus is unable to grasp the grassroot movement in our country. They were too quick to take credit for the 2006 (see Rahm Emmanuel) elections and simply ignored how voters turned on the status quo.

You simply cannot count the Clintons out at this point. She has money and a strong organization...it's a bit like rooting against the Yankees as a Sox fan. You don't count them out until the fat lady sings.

Obama wins Iowa

Obama pulled off what the media is descibing as an "upset" victory at the Iowa caucus yesterday. The only upset is that he is not the establishment candidate (Clinton is) and the media cannot wrap it's collective brain around the idea that grassroot movements can generate victory.

The media is simply not tuned in to what is happening around the country. In 2006 in New Hampshire, two grassroot candidates won congressional seats from incumbents. One, Carol Shea-Porter, had to defeat an establishment candidate (Jim Craig) in the primary. She did so handily...the NH Dem machine didn't know what hit them. It was all grassroot movement.

This is what is happening. The turnout for Obama in NH will be huge. Many are predicting that he will narrowly edge out Clinton in the primary here. I think it will be a comfortable margin of victory, quite possibly double-digits. Independents and Republicans will crossover to vote for him.

Edwards is my first choice. I love that he has driven the discussion to issues that are important to me. But any of these three candidates are worthy and qualified to be President. And something about voting for an intelligent, charismatic, and energetic black man for President inspires me.

Home from Israel

Obviously there's been a huge gap in my postings. Nothing I could have done about it unfortunately. We worked 12+ hours a day in Israel and when I wasn't working, I was visiting Carl, who wound up in an Israeli hospital with an intestinal infection.

I refuse to relive the entire event through storytelling, because it was awful. Instead, I'll just say that Carl is now ok and home in Indiana. He recieved a wide-spectrum antibiotic to combat a terrible bacterial infection and it worked quickly.

Our trip home was uneventful except for getting lost on the way to the airport in Tel Aviv. That was a little harrowing because Israel is not the place to take a wrong turn. When in doubt, always go west was my motto. Anyway, we had plenty of time to make our way to the airport despite taking the wrong exit.

We're home.

Yay.
